I just discovered the recently launched Store LA and I can honestly say that I want one of everything. Designer Tracy Wilkinson of TW Workshop and architect Simon Storey of Anonymous Architects have joined forces to bring you an online market of handcrafted products: Ceramics, furniture, home decor and (the must-have wardrobe stable) cotton T-shirts. Most items are made-to-order so plan ahead. It’s worth it!

2. Monterey Hanging Pot, $60

3. Licorice Standing Pot, $150

4. Amazonian Basket Pot, $130

Pinning: Paper Star Garlands

December 4, 2012 · Leave a Comment

In case you were wondering if I am one of those DIY, crafty, home decorated for the holidays type of people, the answer is no. However, through the power of Pinterest, I sometimes convince myself that I could be. These paper star garlands by Toast are the perfect starting point for someone as DIY-challenged as myself.  They look thoughtful and handmade, but arrive complete and ready to hang.  Just my kind of project!

In the Queue: American Movie

December 2, 2012 · Leave a Comment

If you’ve ever considered getting into the film business, or any self-financed creative endeavor, I highly recommend American Movie. This documentary is an honest, funny and sometimes heartbreaking portrayal of independent filmmaker Mark Borchardt’s attempt to fulfill his dreams. Born and raised in Milwaukee, Mark started making films at the age of fourteen when he purchased a super-8 camera at a garage sale. After serving three years in the military, he returned to the Midwest to attend film school at a local university.  He spent the next three years attempting to write, shoot and edit his independent film, “Northwestern.” The process was documented by filmmakers Chris Smith and Sarah Price and their resulting film, American Movie, won the Grand Jury Prize at the 1999 Sundance Film Festival.

Ultimately a story of friendship, family and the power of perseverance, American Movie is truly inspiration for the creative entrepreneur.

Gift Guide: Coco Bohemia

December 1, 2012 · 2 Comments

I have been a fan of artist Jamie Watson’s work for several years.  Her original Monotype prints have been made into posters which can be purchased at Corduroy Gallery. Based in Maine, Corduroy’s online shop features apparel, contemporary art, and back to basics surf and skate items.  If you happen to be in town, check out their frequent pop-up shows and events.

For more of Jamie’s work and updates on her adventures, head over to her blog Pineapple Luv.

On the Menu: Lil’ Frankie’s

December 1, 2012 · 2 Comments

New York City has no shortage of pizza options but, when visiting Manhattan, I will go out my way to eat at Lil’ Frankie’s. The Pizza Margherita is second to none, especially the crust. Crispy on the outside and airy on the inside, it’s worth the wait you will usually encounter at this cozy East Village spot.

In the Queue: Swimming Pool

November 26, 2012 · 1 Comment

I am looking forward to sharing recommendations of films that I find inspiring and entertaining.  Released in 2003, Swimming Pool makes the top of my favorite movies list.  Starring the always amazing Charlotte Rampling and Ludivine Sagnier, Swimming Pool is filled with mystery, melancholy, and gratuitous nudity.  Thus, even though it is mostly in English, it has the typical characteristics of a moody French film. The intentionally ambiguous conclusion sparked much confusion and controversy with audiences, but it is one of those endings that keep this movie on your mind.  Highly recommended with a bottle of red and a rainy day.

Even though I look horrified in this photo, I was having the time of my life…riding up a mountain in a horse drawn carriage. Booze in one hand and a flaming torch in the other 🔥. Of course sitting next to my partners in #adventure @susanna_kirschnick and @dagmara.mituniewicz made the experience one that I will never forget ❤️
